Celebrity Cruises Reveals A Taste Of San Francisco Pop-Up Menu

“A Taste of Modern Luxury” event to be cruise industry’s first pop-up
MIAMI – November 2, 2012 Premium vacation brand Celebrity Cruises’ is bringing its award-winning, from-scratch culinary philosophy from sea to land this month in San Francisco, California, in the form of the first-ever cruise line pop-up restaurant. Elegant simplicity, modern pairings and abundance of earth and sea are the theme of the restaurant, which will pop up at Stable Café in the Mission District.

Diners will enjoy a taste of modern luxury as Celebrity’s Director of Culinary Operations, James Beard-featured chef John Suley, and his team, present a menu rich with unexpected flavors, delicate textures, and of-the-moment culinary techniques.

The menu draws on Celebrity’s award-winning onboard cuisine, as exemplified by a five-spice crusted Cervena venison loin with celery root fondant, wilted spinach, red cabbage marmalade and lingonberry sauce from the classic specialty restaurant Murano, and the “Strawberry Fields” dessert from the “uniquely unordinary” specialty restaurant Qsine.

Other menu items are inspired by seasonal, local ingredients and flavors in and around San Francisco and the Pacific Northwest.

For example, Suley and team will offer a roasted parsnip salad with apple, celery, radicchio, capriago cheese and truffled hazlelnut vinaegrette at lunch, and at dinner, a Jerusalem artichoke veloute with chanterelle mushrooms, mascarpone cheese, Iberico ham and sourdough crouton, as well as a seared Arctic char with “beluga” pasta, chorizo, mussels and a smoked paprika emulsion.

Artful, decadent desserts and locally inspired beverages will complete the experience.
Celebrity has partnered with Tasting Table to invite its San Francisco-area subscribers. Attendees will be entered into a giveaway to win a 7-night Alaska cruise for two on the stunning, luxurious Celebrity Solstice in 2013. Tickets are available online at http://celebritycruisespopup.eventbrite.com and are subject to availability.

As part of Celebrity’s “Celebrity Cruises Cares” program, and in support of Celebrity’s commitment to offering its cruise guests extraordinary culinary experiences, proceeds from tickets go to the Celebrity Cruises Scholarship at The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), which has a campus in St. Helena, California. Suley is a 1996 graduate of the CIA’s Hyde Park, New York campus.
Earlier this year, Suley and team became the first cruise line chefs to cook dinner at the prestigious James Beard House in New York City.

Spokane's National Conventions

Millions in economic impact and priceless exposure in the next two weeks
(Spokane, WA - October 25,2012) - The Society of American Foresters, World Accordion Championships and National Preservation Conference, highlighting two weeks of national and international conventions in Spokane.

With an estimated economic impact of $3.4 million, nearly 1,700 attendees are in Spokane for the Society of American Foresters (SAF) Annual Convention until October 28. As the largest professional society for foresters in the world, the biggest professionals in the forestry industry will be attending this convention. Tom Tidwell, Chief of the U.S. Forest Service and Mike Pool, Acting Director of the Bureau of Land Management, will both be in attendance, along with an international contingency that includes groups from Finland, Japan and Korea.

Overlapping with the SAF is the World Accordion Championships. This is a much smaller group (less than 100 attendees), but it brings big international representation. Accordionists from Asia, Europe, Australia, North America, South America and Africa will showcase their talents in this prestigious five-day competition. This is the first time this world-wide competition has been in the United States and Spokane was selected!

The National Preservation Conference unfolds in Spokane October 31-November 3. Spokane will be spotlighted for its historic gems when nearly 1,800 attendees arrive from across the country. The Davenport Hotel, Steam Plant Square, Historic Browne's Addition and our Native American heritage are just a few of the conference highlights. As the smallest city to ever host this convention, Spokane is poised to impress attendees, many of whom are preservation leaders in their own communities. The Preservation Conference will bring $4 million dollars in economic impact to our city.

"For the next two weeks our restaurants will be bustling, registers will ring at our retailers and hotels will be hopping. We told you at our Big Meeting that Spokane is a 'big deal.' Hosting such important conventions proves our point," says Cheryl Kilday, Visit Spokane President and CEO. "You never know who might decide to move a company to Spokane, expand a business to include our area or just book a family vacation, based on visiting Spokane during a convention."

You might see attendees from these three conventions throughout Spokane. Society for American Foresters Convention is based at the Spokane Convention Center but will also include educational sessions in our region's forests. The Accordion Championships will be held at the Martin Woldson Theater at the FOX, The Bing Crosby Theater and River Park Square. The National Preservation Conference will be headquartered at The Davenport Hotel with programs at the Convention Center and field sessions at many dozens of our historic sites throughout the region.

Peru International Campaign Launches with Hit Reviews
This is a new and exciting time for Peru, as the international went global with two brand new promotional videos. Following the previous campaign, where an ordinary traveler revisits his trip to Peru years and it rekindles his desire to experience Peru; the current campaign invites you to “¡No mires la película, vívela!”  Or “Don’t just watch the movie, LIVE IT!” as quoted by the Minister of Exports and Tourism, José Luis Silva Martinot. The campaign takes on a similar approach as the previous in that it incorporates film spots catered and altered for each particular market. The campaign also reveals the exhaustive work of archeologist, Bruno Alva, who began work 11 years ago on uncovering and interpreting pre-Hispanic Peruvian iconography originating from ancient civilizations that inhabited Peru. The slogan, “Peru, Empire of Hidden Treasures” was significant for Alva’s investigation in that it gave life to the people of all ancient Peruvian cultures. The slogan has been adopted for the current campaign.
